How to Convert Chart to Image?

If you create many multimedia presentations at work, you must be aware of how charts can impact your argument. Quantitative data can help prove your point and convince your audience more effectively. Therefore, in order to insert charts in your work, you must know how to convert them into images first. There are a few methods you can use to convert chart to image on Microsoft Excel. Here’s what you must do.

How to Convert Chart to Image?

There’s one method that many users use, even though it’s not as effective. They often take screenshots of their charts to convert it to an image file. However, that’s not all they must do. They must then crop that screenshot so that only the chart is visible. After cropping the file, they must then save it. After that, they can paste it into their PowerPoint presentation or Microsoft Word document. They can also insert images in their Microsoft Excel file.

While this process may be simple enough, the image quality may leave much to be desired. This is because the screenshot’s resolution will depend on your screen’s resolution and the size of the chart on the screen. A low-resolution image will significantly blur if you try to zoom in on it. This may compromise the overall effectiveness of your presentation. However, if your presentation doesn’t require high-resolution images, this method is quick and easy to perform.

So, what else can you do for this conversion? Well, let’s find out.

Copy Your Chart Onto a Graphics Program

Copying Your Chart Onto a Graphics Program is a simple and effective method to convert chart to image. Here are the steps you must follow.

Step 1. Click on the Chart That You Want to Convert Into an Image

The first step is to click on the chart that you want to convert into an image. Make sure to click on the border of the chart. If you click within the chart, you may only copy individual elements in the chart. Clicking on the border, however, ensures that you’ve selected the entire chart.

Step 2. Copy the Chart

The second step is to copy the chart. One way to do this is to select the option “Copy” from the ribbon. Once copied, it will be added to your clipboard. A much simpler method of copying is to use the keyboard shortcut: Crtl+C (if you’re using PC). Just make sure to select the chart before using this shortcut.

Step 3. Open the Graphics Program

Now that you’ve copied the chart, it’s time to paste it into the graphics program. Thus, you must first open the graphics program. You don’t need a sophisticated application to do so. Microsoft Paint is good enough to get the job done as well.

Step 4. Paste the Chart into the Graphics Program

Now that Microsoft Paint (or any other graphics program) is ready to use, simply paste the file in the application. To paste, right-click on your mouse. You’ll then see the option of pasting a file. Select that, and the chart will be in your graphics program. You can also use this keyboard shortcut for the same purpose: Crtl+V(if you’re using a PC).

Step 5. Save the File as an Image

The final step entails saving the file as an image. There are are a few common image formats you can save your chart as. Here are a few details on each.

  • JPEG Interchange Format (.jpg): this is one of the most common image formats. This is best for pictures that contain many colors. An example of such images is a scanned photo.
  • Device Independent Bitmap (.bmp): this format is the best for those of you who want to convert chart to image. This format ensures that the graphic appears exactly how it did in the original platform.
  • Portable Network Graphics Format (.png): this format is an excellent choice for websites. It can improve the quality of the graphic, as some parts of the image can be made transparent, and you can control the brightness.
  • Graphics Interchange Format (.gif): this is best for moving images. The format can support 256 colors. Also, the image data is not lost when you compress the file.

There are more formats you can choose for your image file. However, using common formats will guarantee better compatibility, as some applications or devices may not be able to read files of specific formats.

To save the file as an image, click the “Save As” option. There, you’ll see a number of different formats you save your file as. So, select the one that’s best suited to your purpose. After you save your file, your chart will become an image.

Copy Your Chart Directly to Your Microsoft Word Document

Another simple method to convert chart to image is to copy your chart directly to your Microsoft Word document. This method is only useful if you want to insert the chart in your Word Document. Here’s what you must do.

Follow the same steps mentioned above on copying the chart. Once the chart is copied and added to your clipboard, right-click on your mouse. There, you’ll see a few paste options. Select the option that allows you to paste as an image. After that, your image should be ready. You can follow this same method for Microsoft PowerPoint as well.
